Day 407: Where in the World is The Fotographing Fat Kid?

So you’re probably wondering why I haven’t posted this week at all (I’m pretty sure it is a record, but a bad record like the number of jelly beans you can fit up your nose.) It’s been a crazy week to say the least. I am currently in San Francisco! Megan is here for a conference, so I tagged along and I’m staying with my old ACU bud Spencer. This is my first time time to visit California and I freaking love it. The weather is awesome, the people are cool and the food is ridiculous. Which brings me to my next point, this town is a foodie’s dream. There is absolutely no reason to ever go to a chain, especially coffee places like Starbucks. So far, the places we have gone to have been just awesome. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t really been keeping close to my diet this week. I could say that I’m on vacation, hiking up the 45 degree angle hills burns enough calories, and that my hike around the Golden Gate Bridge/the ocean should cover it, but I won’t. I should be better and I’m going to try to be better the rest of the week. It’s just so hard when there are so many new places to try. Thoughts?

Anyways, I’ve enjoyed my trip so far and while I’m still going to enjoy it in regards to eating, I’m going to take it from a different approach which will mean more portion control and water drinking. (Sorry for such a ginormous run on sentence.) I won’t be able to weigh tomorrow, so weigh in will be on Tuesday with a full report then. I really want to drop some weight before seeing my family in Texas over Thanksgiving, plus I want to get to my 235 goal for November. I’ll have to get busy!

So here are a few pics of the trip so far. Like I said earlier, I hiked up to the Hall of Legions and then took the coastal trail towards the Golden Gate Bridge. As I was getting close, it started to pour so I called it good for now. Enjoy!

Day 401: A Good Ol’ Weigh Sunday In!

So yeah, I didn’t post on my 400th day like I should have. My B.

My parents got in to town yesterday so we have had a blast just chilling and enjoying the sight and sound (yes, that is suppose to be singular) of Tallahassee. Anyways, even though I didn’t make time to run, I was still able to lose 1.8 pounds this week! I’m pretty stoked about it! At this point, I have lost 114.2 pounds so far so November is looking alright. Good times.

Breakfast: We crashed the La Quinta breakfast bar this morning. It was nothing special as far as continental breakfasts go so I just had a bagel and some raisin bran. Good stuff.

Lunch: After church, we went to my Dad’s favorite place in Tallahassee: Barnacle Bill’s Seafood Extravaganza. We split an order of steamed oysters and I had the stone crabs with hush puppies and new potatoes. The stone crabs were served chilled which was a little weird, but pretty good nonetheless.

Afternoon Dessert: My mom wanted to go to some of the “greatest hits” from the blog so we went to TCBY for some froyo awesomeness. I had a mix of white chocolate mousse, pumpkin, and peanut butter. Yes, I know that sounds like a bizarre combo, but it was fantastico.

Dinner: My Dad brought me his old Weber grill from home (which is better than the one I’ve been using that I found by the trash can) so I tried broke it in tonight with some burgers. We bought some ground beef from Earth Fare along with some natural charcoal from Earth Fare as well. The burgers past the MacDonald family test and so did the bratwursts! We also got some fries from Wing Stop as a side. They were awesome of course.

So today was alright food wise and I’m really going to work to rock this week. See ya tomorrow.

Day 399: Friday Time People!

#iheartfridays

(Yes… I did just hashtag. Deal with it.)

So today was kind of nuts with a bunch of random things going on. We were finally able to sleep in this morning which made life better because we are both kind of fighting off a cold. It was nice to get some homework done while getting to relax a little bit. Before I get too far in to this, I might as well admit that I have already “broken” one of my goals this month. I wanted to run, but it was cold and windy and I didn’t have make the time like I should have. I’m going to just get up in the morning and run since it will be a little warmer tomorrow morning. (Yes, 63 and windy is cold to me. I have turned in to a wimp.) Anyways, overall though today was okay food wise and hopefully I will be able to drop some lbs this week. If anything, I’ve been drinking my water and that has to count for something right?

Breakfast: I just had two waffles and some peanut butter. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit.

Lunch: Megan wanted to me out to lunch so we decided on some Cuban at Gordo’s. I went with the media noche sandwich with some moros which is black beans and rice cooked together. Last time I had the fries which were way too salty so I’m glad I went with a smaller side. It was pretty good, but my steak dinner was way cheaper than my lunch which is kind of ridiculous.

Starbucks: While Megan and I were out and about, we grabbed some Starbucks at the mall. I had a skinny caramel machiatto thanks to the gift card my parents sent us. I was probably the best caramel machiatto ever. Awesomeness.

Dinner: Tonight, I had to assure my neighbors that our place wasn’t on fire. (I wish I was kidding.) I was cooking with half charcoal and half mesquite and it really gave our Montreal crusted steaks a smokey flavor. We had that with some microwavable broccoli and cheese. We figured it out and it was $4 per person for dinner. Yes… a steak dinner was $4 each. Why do we eat out? That was less than our Starbucks drinks! Craziness. Anyways, for dessert we had two cookies. Yum.

So today wasn’t too bad like I said, and I’m going to be good tomorrow so I can lose some weight yo! Fun stuff. See ya tomorrow.

PS: my alma mater Abilene Christian University suffered a great blow today. A group of students from the Agriculture department were going on a weekend mission trip to a children’s home and their bus tipped over, killing one student and injuring the majority of the students and faculty. Please keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

Day 389: Tuesday

So yeah, I messed up the day number. I’m losing my mind.

It was a pretty good day I guess, just another day in grad school. I’m ready to retire in to the real world. (Yes, you read that right.) Anyways, let’s talk about food and stuff.

Breakfast: I was out of milk and organic peanut butter (what’s a boy to do?) but we had some conventional Peter Pan Peanut Butter so I had that on my waffles. It just wasn’t the same.

Lunch: I just had some pretzels and hummus (you know, the usual) and it was good as usual.

Snack: I had a couple atomic fire balls which really aren’t bad but I had to get rid of the rest of them so I would stop eating out of stress.

Dinner: Tonight, I made some chili awesomeness for dinner and we had it with some tortilla chips. It was one of the better batches I have made.

So as you can tell, it was just another boring day. Nothing too exciting. Maybe tomorrow will be a little better BECAUSE IT’S GAME 6 AND WORDLESS WEDNESDAY!!! Get stoked. See ya tomorrow.

Day 288: Monday Edition

So last night’s concert was RIDICULOUS!!! I got down like a crazy person. It’s always awesome to see your favorite band play pretty much all of your favorite songs. Anyways, I haven’t spent a lot of time in Jacksonville, but it seems like a pretty cool place. On Wednesday I’ll post some pics of the trip and the concert.

If you follow me on Facebook, then you saw yesterday that I gained 1.4 pounds this past week. I wasn’t the best this week so I kind of expected it. I’m a little frustrated with myself because it has just been an ebb and flow of getting complacent and just wanting to eat what I want. However, I knew this was going to get to a point where this was going to get hard. Weight loss is a process and some weeks you have to dig a little deeper than other weeks.

Breakfast: the hotel we stayed at had an Einstein Brothers Bagels next door so we stopped in for a bagel and coffee before we hit the road. Einstein’s has my favorite brewed coffee of all: their vanilla hazelnut. I always burn my tongue because I want to drink it right out of the tap (aka when it is in its molten state). Anyways, I had an everything bagel with cream cheese. I forgot that they schlacked your bagel with fattened deliciousness, but it was pretty awesome. It was only 8 points which is usually how much I “spend” for breakfast so it’s all good.

Lunch: When we got home, I made a sandwich before class and work. I had some of the kettle chips that we bought for the trip. Pretty simple yet delicious.

Snack: I’ve unintentionally developed a bad habit of buying candy before my class. Don’t worry, it’s not anything really bad, just some chik-o-sticks and atomic fireballs. I had about 4 points worth of candy today. I need to get it out of my backpack so I stop eating it. I don’t have the points for excess stuff like that.

Pre-Run Snack: By the time I got home, I was pretty hungry so I had a bowl of grape nuts and granola. It was the perfect pre-run food. 8 points.

Run: I did work son. I have no clue what the deal was but to quote Forest Gump “I was run-ning” and it felt awesome. I don’t know if I just lengthened my stride or if my body knew I needed a solid run, but whatever it was it felt awesome. I ran a 5k in 32:47 with a 10:31/mile average (first mile was 10:20) which shaved off a good chunk of time considering my last 5k time was 35:39. I’m hoping with the adrenaline that goes along with a race that I can maybe get down below 30. Lofty goal? Of course, but what’s the point of not aiming high when you have nothing to lose? (He said in his best Tony Robbins impression.)

Dinner: Last week, I had grilled up some Italian sausage solely for the purpose of spaghetti this week. So tonight, I warmed them up and added it to the sauce. It turned out pretty well, but I ate too much for dinner. I’m a little frustrated, but it is what it is.

So today wasn’t too bad, but I had a big portion of seconds during dinner that just made me disappointed in myself. Awe well, tomorrow is another day. See ya tomorrow.

Day 286: Saturday Time!

I was going to blog after the Rangers game, but it’s gotten pretty ugly so I’ll just multitask.

So today, the residual stress of this week weighted me down for part of the day, but I broke out of that so I could enjoy this gorgeous Saturday in Florida. I did homework instead of going to the game, which was a good idea in hindsight because life is about to get B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Alright, food time.

Breakfast: I had two pieces of toast with the last of my Central Market Organic Peanut Butter :’-(. Good thing my parents will be here in a few weeks… (Hint Hint Mom and Pops!)

Lunch: We wanted to avoid around campus for lunch, so we ended up going to Super Perros for some Godzilla burrito. It was awesome as always, but I think I’ve gained every time I’ve eaten at Super Perros the Saturday before my weigh in. I don’t know what that’s all about, but we will just see what happens.

Dinner: After studying, we got some yogurt at TCBY, went over to a pumpkin patch, bought some little pumpkins and then went over to Earth Fare for some stuff for dinner. We bought some grass fed ground beef and some Italian sausages that they make every morning. We wanted dinner to be an epic cookout to celebrate getting through the week. Instead of just using charcoal tonight (Hank Hill is right, with charcoal you really taste heat not the meat) I bought some mesquite chips (more like chunks) that you light up with your charcoal. It made the fire a lot hotter and it gave everything a much better flavor. I cooked up two burgers with some white cheddar on top with some caramelized onions on ciabatta. We also had some leftover french onion soup (random deliciousness) and also some grilled corn. I cooked up the sausages for spaghetti later in the week, but I tried one of them tonight and holy crap it was soooooo spicy! I can’t wait to eat it some time this week!

So today was okay I guess. It’s been a nutzo week with a lot of stress eating, but I think today might have been the worst. I don’t know. Either way, life will be a bit better next week and I really need to run to get ready for the 5k on Friday. We will just see how it goes. Oh yeah, I’m not going to be able to blog tomorrow night (TV ON THE RADIO IN CONCERT!!! I’M SO STOKED!!!) so I will post tomorrow’s results on my Facebook Page. So if you want to hear all about the weigh in, like my page yo! See ya tomorrow.

Day 380: Monday

So no, it’s not my birthday, but today I did realize that I was going to be 25 in January. It terrified the crap out of me. Am I going to have a quarter life crisis like John Mayer? It just kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. It was just a weird realization to have. Even though it was a sad realization, it was not a bleak realization like it was two years ago. In my old life, the word “if” was a caveat. I would think about 40 years down the road and think “if I’m still able to walk.” “If I’m even still alive.” Depressing thoughts like that about if I can make it to 62. My grandma is 94 so I have the genetic make up to live that old, so why I wouldn’t make it that far in life it would be my own undoing, me abusing my body with food and lack of exercise.

The difference between then and now is that I love myself now enough to not to die for some disease that would be cured by diet and exercise. I know a lot of people say it, but I really was watching my life go by. I let it go by by not passing up on the junk food and other crap I was putting in my body. If you feel like I did back then, really evaluate where your life is going and do something about it. You got this!

Breakfast: I just had some grape nuts and granola. Deliciousness.

Lunch: I really need to bring my own lunch again. Today I bought a pizza lunchable from the Circle K across campus. It was not as good as I remember, but it was still okay I guess. Like I said, I need to bring my own lunch again.

Snacks: When I got home, I had some sunflower seeds and a Fiber One bar that was flippin’ awesome. I think the key to my success last week was not grazing through out the week and I need to work on that again this week.

Dinner: Last week, we bought some sirloin at The Fresh Market so we finally cooked those babies up. They turned out really well! I cooked up two pounds so Megan split a pound and then I cooked the other one for fajitas tomorrow. I’m so stoked.

So like I said, I really need to work on my grazing keep it in check because at this point I don’t have enough points to eat that much. We will just see how it all goes. See ya tomorrow.

Day 368: Monday and Stuff

I’m exhausted, and I have a bunch to do. Let’s get to it.

Breakfast: I had a wafflewich without the naner. It was delicioustastic. 4.5 points

Lunch: I had a Smart One Szechuan Chicken and it made everyone in the office jealous. It was pretty good, but it definitely  smelled better than it tasted. For dessert, I had a Stoneyfield yogurt with chocolate. It looked kind of gross, but after I stirred it pretty well it was pretty good. I did bring some pretzels, but I ended up not eating them. 7 points.

Snack: When I got home, I made some tea and had a bagel with 1/3 fat cream cheese and this awesome four berry jam we bought a while back. 3 points.

Snack: 2 points of jerky. Awesome.

SAWS!!!: Megan and I decided go for a run to get ready for 5k season. By the time we ran, it was getting cool and pretty breezy so the first mile I over did it a little because I was sucking cold air like crazy. Either way, I had one of my best times so it all worked out. I want to cut my time down a bit before the end of the semester for the Trick or Trot 5k on the 29th. I really want to break the 30 minute mark. Better get to it. 7 exercise points.

Dinner: It was definitely a steak night. So. Awesome. Megan made some light mashed potatoes with chicken broth that were pretty good too. We topped it off with a little ice cream after which made it the perfect meal. 13 points

So on my first real day of 28 points actually we really well. I got to 29.5 points so with the exercise points I’m good. I still might have a healthy snack like a banana because I still feel a little weak. Anyways, GO RANGERS! See ya tomorrow.

Day 367: Ballin Weigh In Edition

Sup G Awesomes!

Today has been brought to you by the letter “awesome.” Awesome weather, awesome relaxing and an awesome weigh in! Yes, I did say awesome weigh in… I dropped 3 pounds this week! These back to back weeks losses is pretty insane. So now I’m down to 247.6 and it feels great. So with this drop below the 250 mark (a place I haven’t been in since who knows when) I only get 28 points a day which is crazy considering I started with an allotment of 34 points a day. I know it’s not a lot, but now I really have to eat my weekly points (35 extra points to use through out the week) so I won’t starve myself and in fact gain weight. I can’t wait to lose some more this week! BOOM!

Breakfast: This morning, we sat out on our porch in the frigid 50-some degree morning sipping on coffee and eating out 1 point bagel thins with a little low fat cream cheese. It was awesome. At church today, two different awesome ladies, Ana and Tara, made pumpkin cake and there were both equally awesome as well.

Lunch: After church, our Young Professionals group went out to Lake Jackson and had a picnic. Everyone just brought a sack lunch so we ran over to Subway before we went out there. I had the oven “fried” chicken sub with Southwest Chipotle sauce. It was ooey-gooey deliciousness.

Snack: I had a cup of berry yogurt which was awesome.

Dinner: Megan made a WW classic meal tonight: orange chicken! It was perfect with a little white rice. Definitely a great and filling meal.

Dessert: It was 30 cents an ounce at TCBY tonight so we went over there for some froyo awesomeness. It’s been a while since we have done self-serve, which in hindsight might be for the best. I went a little overboard with the toppings, but I didn’t put too much froyo in there. I think I need to go back to just getting a small or child’s cup.

So today wasn’t too bad, but could have been better. Tomorrow, we are going to start working out in the morning and see how that goes. I think we are going to get back to Insanity and at least do it a few days a week along with some cardio in there. Anyone interested in playing racquetball at 6:15 am some time? (Seriously, if you are interested let me know.) See ya tomorrow.
