Day 172: Finally A Post Friday

I’m really sorry that I wasn’t able to post yesterday or the other. I don’t know what the deal is with WordPress this week but for some reason every time I got on to post it would keep messing up.  Awe well. Anyways, Spring Break has come to an end. Spring Break 2K11 was pretty domestic with tons of spring cleaning and other fun stuff like that. To be honest, it was just what we needed to get through to the end of the semester. Alright, let’s talk food and other awesome things.

Breakfast: Oatmeal was BOGO at Publix this week so I got the Maple Brown Sugar with Double Fiber (yay fiber!) so I had a packet of that. I also put half a banana in it just to see what it would taste like. It was actually really good! I was impressed and 4 points.

Mid Morning Snack: While I was grading and feeling sorry for the future of humanity, I had 3 points worth of almonds. Such a great snack.

Lunch: In between loads of laundry, we made kind of a makeshift lunch that actually turned out well. (I hate it when you make a makeshift lunches and it’s terrible because it’s ramen noodles, bar-b-que sauce and ranch wrapped in a tortilla or something like that.) Ours was just a veggie chicken patty with some Uncle Ben’s cheesy rice and some mixed veggies. It was a really good 6 point lunch.

Exercise of Death: Megan bought the 30 Day Shred (because she is a masochist or something) and it was beastly. It’s only 20 minutes, but the circuits are rough. I know I’m going to be sore tomorrow but it’s worth it. It was 5 exercise points so not too bad. I’m definitely going to do it again.

After Exercise Snack: Nature Valley Oats ‘N Honey. So awesome. 4 points.

Smoothie Time! Also after the workout, I made a Strawberry-Banana-Blackberry Smoothie. It was really good and I was a fan of the combo. And for 3 points it wasn’t too bad!

Dinner: So we really wanted to try to make pizza this week and finally the day came! Megan made the dough out of the WW cookbook. We got some really awesome toppings from The Fresh Market this afternoon. The toppings shown are: grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, spinach, and mushrooms. It was awesome with a capital delicious. A slice was a little high (8 points) but again, it was delicious. We each bought a soda to drink with pizza (you can’t just drink water with pizza, it’s gross) and we both got Virgil’s Black Cherry Cream Soda. I forgot how sweet it was so I didn’t really drink mine. Anyways, I had 2 ginormous slices for 16 points. I don’t think I minded because it was basically a deep dish veggie pizza. Good stuff.

So overall, I got to 36 points but with the exercise points I’m at 31 points so I’m good. A really good day. See ya tomorrow.

Day 168: First Monday of Spring Break!

Sup yo!

So this was my first time I actually had a day off on a Spring Break so I took advantage of it. I took today to actually relax before I needed to work on homework and other fun things. Alrighty then…

Breakfast: I started the morning with this some awesome breakfast. It was nice to have enough time to make some. I made a Veggie Sausage Egg MacMuffin (not McMuffin) and it was fantastic. It was only 6 points with a little cheese too! Good breakfast.

Workout: My friend Kyle invited me to go workout since we had some time. It.Was.Intense. We worked on upper body and core. He showed me a bunch of different workouts to do and they were beastly but I can feel it. We worked out for about 2 hours and got a really good sweat in. It was definitely a 13 point workout.

Lunch: After the workout, we went back to my house and had leftover veggie lasagna. 5 points.

Snack: Megan made some afternoon smoothies which were just awesome. Whoever thought to but strawberry and banana together was a genius. 3 points.

Snack: While watching Dr. Oz, I had some Double Fiber Quaker Oatmeal. 1 point.

Snack… Again: While looking through recipes for dinners to make for the week, I found this recipe for this awesome Roasted Red Pepper Dip. The dip is zero points and I just had 1.5 points of pita chips for dipping.

Dinner: Megan found this awesome Chicken Enchiladas with salsa verde. They were awesome. Each enchilada was 3.5 points and I had four so dinner was 14 points.

Dessert: I had 4 points of Edy’s yogurt swirl ice cream. Magical.

So today I got to 34.5 points which was awesome and with the exercise points I’m good.

Day 167: Redemption Weigh In Day

I’m so sorry this post was so late. We’ve been hanging out with folks all day which has been a blast.

When I woke up, it felt like Christmas morning: I was anxious to just see what was under the tree good or bad because that way I would just know. I got some pretty exciting news! I lost 5.5 pounds this week! That made up for last week’s gain and then some! Basically I lost 2.5 pounds (I guess that’s how that works?) Anyways, what makes this week even cooler is that with this beast of a loss, I have lost 71.5 pounds and I have lost 20% of my body weight! I’m a four-fifths of the man I use to be! Pretty awesome weigh in day for sure; I’m even more excited to see how next weeks will be with so much time to work out this week. It should be a good one!

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich with the other half of yesterday’s banana. I was 6.5 points of deliciousness.

Snack: Between class and service, I had 2 points worth of almonds and I’m really glad I did…. read on.

Lunch: So after service, the college group and the young professionals all went to lunch at Red Elephant which is known for their pizza but they have a bunch of different stuff. Anyways, we had a reservation for 1:00 and we didn’t get seated until 2:00; oh yeah, it was in the 50’s today in Tallahassee and we had to sit outside! Lametastic! We finally got our table and when I had been looking at the menu I really wanted something that was hot and just hearty. So I had a salad… (I can see the confuse look on your face.) I had their Oriental Salad with Seared Tuna and Soy and Ginger dressing on the side. I was really impressed. The tuna was perfect and the oranges and pineapple were a really nice touch. It was a great salad that I would like to go back and get. They don’t have their nutritional info online (even though they advertise 550 calorie meals. You obviously know at least some of the nutritional info!!!!!!!!!) but I figured it out to be about 10 points?

Snack: We went home for a little bit after lunch just to relax until we were going to hang out with people again so I had a 6 point bowl of Kashi cereal while watching Season One of Boy Meets World (which is awesome.)

Dinner: Shortly after my snack, I had a ginormous 5 point slice of leftover lasagna which was good as always.

Snack: I had about 5 points worth of snacks which isn’t that bad considering we were over at our Campus Minister’s house until midnight. Most of those 5 points was from this awesome brownie that Crystal had made. The rest is some popcorn and some grapes. Usually I’m always tempted to eat a second anything be it cookie or whatever but tonight it didn’t even cross my mind.

So today I got to about 34.5 points which is okay with me. I ate pretty well and that’s what flex points are for. Plus, we are going to cook at home a lot this week so I’ll keep within my points pretty well. Also, while we were at their house I sat on a exercise ball for more than a hour and in that time I did leg raises on it (which were hard!) I’m sure there are some exercise points in there but I would try to justify it 🙂 See ya tomorrow.

Day 166: Spring Break Saturday!

Why hello there!

I hope everyone had a great Saturday (and Friday… my bad.) I can summarize how my Friday was with a haiku  lieu of a blog post:

Not much food in day

Hit by racquetball a lot

Snacked too much in night

I woke up this morning and decided to weigh to see where I was at and I was up from 285.5 on friday morning to 291 this morning! What the crap!?! I really really really really really really really need to stop weighing constantly. It’s become this addiction which I know is really unhealthy. I know that the number isn’t what matter as much. I’m not going to fall below some red line or get voted out by some toolbags on the Red team because I use to be on the Black team just because I didn’t lose enough. I need to be okay with the ebb and flow of this journey and that’s been hard. With that said, I had a NSV today that made whatever the scale says tomorrow moot. (If I were you I would keep reading.)

Breakfast: I went the “eat six small meals” route today to really kick start my metabolism. When I was working on my morning internship duties, I just had a Nature Valley Oats n’ Honey bar pack for 4 points. I think that was the last one I’ll have in a while. I’m getting burnt out on them.

Mid Morning Snack: I decided to make a wafflewich around 10:00 so I could hold myself over until lunch. I did it the right way (aka the way A Girl Who Loves Cupcakes (you really need to check out her awesome blog!!!!) makes them) with half a banana. It was delectable and really filling. Not a bad 6.5 point morning snack.

Non Scale Victory! So if you follow me on either Facebook or Twitter, you may recall I said I turned the clock back to 1999 today. Well here’s why… We went to Old Navy to pick up some cheap flip flops (an American summer tradition) and just to look around. The last time I bought jeans from Old Navy was 1999. After then, I couldn’t really fit into their pants (you know… the obesity thing) but today I found a pair of jeans and a pair of  brown pants that fit perfect! So I bought them! And they were on sale! I really never thought I would ever be able to buy pants from a non Big and Tall section ever again back before I started this thing so this was a really big (or little) day for me and it made me realize that even if the scale is moving at a snail’s pace, I’m still making awesome strides and obviously my body is changing. Pretty awesome revelation.

Lunch: After our escapade to ON, we went to Subway. I had the Megan Special which is Black Forest Ham and other awesome things on Whole Grain bread. It was 8 points of yumtasticness.

Snack: I had an apple and some chocolate covered coffee beans because they are awesome; so that was my afternoon snack. 2 points.

Dinner: As part of our dinner and a movie, we decided to make one of our favorite meals together that we haven’t made since we lived in our shoebox of an apartment in Abilene. We made Veggie Lasagna out of the Taste of Home cookbook. It was amazing beyond belief. All it is is lasagna with carrots, peppers, onions and zucchini. It takes a while to make, but you can eat off of it for days. I had 2 ginormous slices with a big ol’ salad with basalmic vinegar and a tsp of olive oil. It was a great meal. We haven’t had a nice sit-down meal at home in a while so it was a special dinner for us. (We are going to go see the Adjustment Bureau tonight. I’ll review it tomorrow.) Oh yeah, dinner was 11 points.

So overall I got to 31.5 points which is fine with me. So as you’ve read, the scale is becoming my enemy (which is one of my no-no’s) since Mr. Scale has been kind of a tool lately. Although I’m a little worried about tomorrow, I’m in a zen state of whatever happens happens. Bring it on Mr. Scale, I want to be your friend, but right now you’re that friend who doesn’t return my calls. See ya tomorrow.

Day 159: Saturday

Today was an odyssey of weirdness. Both in food and in almost been hitting by a bus. I’m no Ray LaHood (google it) but when someone is crossing the street when you have the little white guy, you should not have to worry about becoming a hood ornament on a City of Tallahassee bus. Fun stuff. Alright, let’s talk food.

Breakfast: Before James had his audition, went to Brugger’s Bagels. We haven’t been there before but we needed to go somewhere psuedo fast but not fast food. I had the Spinach Cheddar Omelet Bagel on a Trail Mix Bagel. It was really good and the trail mix bagel was soooo good but it was pretty high in points. It was 13 points. Ouch, but I want to go there again sometime.

Lunch: After James’ audition, we had a celebratory lunch at Sonny’s! It was really good. I had the Chicken with a baked sweet potato and baked beans. The chicken was a little greasy but the whiter parts were pretty good. It was about 15 points for lunch so not too bad. Megan got a salad that had candied pecans and craisins. It was only 5 points too!

Snack: After walking around downtown, we went over to Nuberri for some frozen yogurt. I went with vaniila and some toppings. It was about 5 points.

Dinner: GODZILLA!!!!!!!!!  We went to Super Perros with James so he could taste some of Tallahassee’s Finest cuisine. Megan and I split the Godzilla burrito of awesomeness. It was fantastic. That’s all that needs to be said.

So today was delicious but indulgent and a little over the top. I’m really worried about tomorrow. I know a gain is on the horizon for a variety of reasons I will bore you with tomorrow. Until then, sweet dreams. See ya tomorrow.

Day 157: Thursday Hooray!

The week is almost over (thank goodness) and we are almost a week away from Spring Break. So close, yet so far. Anyways, today wasn’t that bad. I’m just ready for this semester to be over with. It’s been beastly.

Breakfast: Wafflewich. The best in the west. 4 points.

Lunch: We met up and ate at Pitaria for some lunch. Luckily, they had their awesome creamy vegetable soup today. So we both did that and split an order of hummus. It was great and about a 10 point lunch.

Snack: I had a Kashi bar of awesomeness for 2 points.

Breakfast: So I met up with some people (shout out to Andrea and Quinten what what!) for a group project around 5:30 so we went to Panera. When I got there, I had the dropsies really bad so going there might not have been the best choice. I wanted to dominated their pastries. Instead, I got a plain bagel. No bueno. It was 6 points completely dry. That’s more than a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Fail. Anyways, to add insult to injury, I spilled coffee all over my hand Old-Lady-From-McDonald’s style. That sucked, however the coffee was good and we got a ton done! (Take the bad with the good right?)

Dinner: By the time we were done at Panera I was starving so Megan and I decided to hit Chipotle in its awesome glory. I went with the Vegetarian Bowl with guac and sour cream on the side. It was a pretty awesome meal and 16 points. Pretty awesome stuff.

Today wasn’t the best day but it’s how it works. I got up to 38 points. Should have skipped on the bagel but awe well. See ya tomorrow.

Day 156: Wordless Wednesday!

Enjoy.. Even though it’s not that great.

Day 155: Tuesday Time!

Sup G’s!

So I’ve been pretty sick all week. I can’t figure out if its allergies or a cold but either way I wake up in the morning with Slimer dancing around in my head. I’ve been drugged up on cough medicine since Sunday so if I seem loopy that’s why.

Breakfast: I went with the classic wafflewich which was good. I finally get to crack open the Central Market Peanut Butter so I’m pretty stoked about that. Good ole 5.5 points

Lunch: I knew that Tuesdays are insane so I decided to make an early lunch. I basically had breakfast twice (which is fine with me) I toasted two English muffins with two eggs and two veggie breakfast sausage patties with a little cheese and some spinach leaves. (I was a Noah’s Ark of a meal.) It turned out really well. Pretty awesome lunch and 11 points.

Snack: While I was waiting for class to start, I had my afternoon snack of Kashi TLC granola bar for 2 points. You should really try them out.

Snack: We bought some awesome Charlie Brown gummies from Publix so I had a little package. They were 2 points.

Dinner: I really needed to eat something spicy to knock the snot out of me so Megan made some curry. She made it extra hot (emphasis on way too hot) It was a green Thai curry that she got for Christmas and we put in some shrimp, yellow peppers and zucchini. We used a low fat coconut milk that was a little different, but regardless it was pretty good. With a massive glass of milk to offset the hot it was about a 13 point dinner.

Overall, I got to 33.5 points which is fine with me. The past couple of days I’ve been too sick to get up to work out so I’m hoping I’ll be well enough to get up in the morning. See ya tomorrow.

P.S. did anyone watch Biggest Loser tonight? What did you think?

Day 153: Weekend Update

Hey everybody!

So you’re probably wondering why I haven’t been blogging and I apologize for my lack of explanation. Well, on Friday we went down in to Central Florida with our church and Megan and I were counselors for a youth retreat! It was a complete blast!!! It was so much fun to just get in to nature and hang out with a bunch of middle schoolers and high schoolers. The theme of the weekend was “Rebeloution,” trying to get the kids to think differently and how they could break the social norms. They even changed up the schedule to create complete chaos. One of the ways was by changing up the meals. This morning the kids had this for breakfast: chocolate cake and cobbler. It was pretty intense. they really changed it up. It was a hoot. (Rest assured, they had healthier options like fruit so just to let you know so you didn’t think Christians have some weird campaign to encourage childhood obesity.) Regardless, it got me to think a lot about control. Since it was camp, our meals were set out for us. I didn’t have control of what I ate, I couldn’t change the meal or whether my meal had meat in it or not. It was tough but that’s how it is. I’m definitely not mad about it because I ate a lot of salad and fruit along with drinking a lot of water. It just got me to think about how important having the control of the situation is when you are trying to lose weight. At every meal, I ate whatever was on my plate. I don’t have that control in those situations and I know that a lot of people might say “well, just don’t eat it” but it’s just not that easy when you are use to meticulously planning out your meals. It was a great weekend and it was the recharging I needed.

Breakfast: As mentioned, there was chocolate cake, but I obviously didn’t go that route. I had a bowl of fruit loops/apple jacks with some fruit. It was a really good breakfast.

Lunch: We had chili for lunch (which was stellar) with chips and salsa with a salad. The salad bar at camp was better than most restaurants so I loaded up on that and just dipped my fork in to the ranch which I think even tastes better than just drenching your salad. You should really try it!

Dinner: It was sad to leave and get back into the thick of it, but it happens. On the road back, we gave Moe’s another try because it was the only decent choice in the area. I had the vegetarian quesadilla which was sooooo good. It just had black beans, grilled peppers and onions, and some cheese. I was impressed. Congratulations Moes, you might have won me back.

Snack: (yes, I need a haircut) I have always heard about how awesome Chobani yogurt was so when we went to Publix tonight I finally gave it a try. It was the first time to try Greek yogurt and I didn’t know what to expect. I really liked it! The texture is completely different which takes some adjusting but it was delicious. Good stuff.

So tomorrow is a new day and to get things right and lose some weight. I’m going to really stay within my points and work out a ton. For the first time in… ever, I actually feel athletic. We were playing a game yesterday that had about as much running as soccer and this kid came up to me who I had been blocking the whole game and he said “man! You were making me work for it every time! You run so fast for a big guy! You are as fast and as agile as a crazy 9 year old” Dang right I am.

Weigh in tomorrow. Get stoked. See ya tomorrow.
