Day 240: Tuesday Coolsday

(I’m running out of title ideas. Any suggestions?)

So today started off on an awkward foot. I slept for what felt like 2 hours last night and when I woke up to my first alarm at 5:30, I kept hitting the snooze button instead of going for a morning run. Instead of actually sleeping, I kept having dreams about working out (not like in a kinky weird way but regardless it was still bizarre.) Anyways, when you get out of an established rhythm it really messes up your day so that made the day just topsy turvy.

Breakfast: Since the gym was not going to happen, I made breakfast for us and just enjoyed another beautiful Tallahassee morning. Gotta love the classic bacon and eggs. 7 pounds.

Lunch: We had the classic flatout pizza. It was pretty awesome. I also had baby spinach salad with some light Ken’s Balsamic/Olive Oil dressing. It was a 10 point lunch with the dressing.

Workout: We did another run/hike through the park behind our house that is straight steep hills. We did a total of about 2.4 miles and we shaved off our time from the other day so it was a pretty good workout but I’m really ready to get in the gym tomorrow and do some serious cardio.

Snack: I had some nuts for 4 points.

Dinner: We went over to our campus minister’s house for dinner and we had spaghetti. The spaghetti was great, but the bread was dangerously delicious. I had three pieces of bread so that was rough but oh boy was it good. After dinner, we all grazed on this awesome fruit plate with a dip that was marshmallow fluff, cream cheese and some other awesome ingredients. I overdid it on the dip but again: boy was it good.

So today was rough but that’s how it went. I don’t think I really went over in points, but like I’ve said it’s just been an off day. Here’s for a better Wednesday (that will be wordless!) See ya tomorrow.

Day 238: Monday Stuff

So today was beautiful in Tallahassee. When we woke up this morning it was 53 outside! It was almost winter like. Anyways, today was a clean slate, a new week to make some progress on getting healthy.

Workout: Today I did a pretty extensive arm/chest workout and it was rough but in the good way. My arms and chest are still my problem areas so I look forward to my arms days. I used a combination of machines and free weights. I want to at least be close to being able to do a pull up by the end of the summer but we’ll see how that goes.

Breakfast and snack: I had a bowl of Sunflower and pumpkin seed Good Earth cereal and it was okay. It’s not sweet at all so it’s definitely not what I’m use to with granola cereal but it was good nonetheless. It’s also kind of high in points: 5 points for 1/2 cup and a 1/2 cup of milk. After my workout I was starving, but luckily I was smart enough to bring a bag of almonds to eat during my break in the class. Those 3 points of almonds saved me.

Lunch: It was still slim (kyle) pickins (anyone get that reference?) for lunch today at our house, but we did have some cans of tuna so I tried my hand at making tuna salad. It turned out pretty well! I used a can of tuna, a few dolips of hellman’s light, a few cut up pickle slices, some pepper, and a good squeeze of spicy brown mustard. I just mixed it all together with a fork and toasted some bread. I was really impressed with how it turned out! Best of all, for two sandwiches it was only 6 points! For a snack after I had some Sweet and Salty nuts for 4 points.

Snack: while I was watching Spongebob (I love the summer) I had a Luigi’s lemon Italian Ice which was the BOMB! It was only 1 point too!

Dinner: Tonight is still college night at Chick Fil A so we went there for a little date. (We also saw Bridesmaids this afternoon and it was hilarious.) Anyways, I had the 8 piece chicken nuggets and Megan and I split a large fruit cup. The fruit cup is not as filling as the fries, but it’s not as greasy (obviously.) I wish there was a happy medium between the two that wasn’t high in calories. Anyways, with the nuggets and one packet of BBQ sauce dinner was only 7 points.

Snack: I had a piece of matzos with some laughing cow cheese for 3 points.

Dessert: To conclude our date night, we went over to Yogurt Mountain for some dessert. I had some swirl of dulce de leche and snickerdoodle and it was sexy delicious. It was sooooooo good. By the time I realized I had forgotten to take a picture, my cup was empty. Awe well, 5 points.

So today I was at 34 points so with exercise points I was right within my points. Good day. See ya tomorrow.

Day 204: Tuesday Times

Sup yo!

So I went to the doctor and I found out that I just have some weird cold virus that is going around the school. The doc just said just drink a lot of water and to get some sleep and that will take care of it. It’s good to know that I’ll survive, but in the process, I got Megan sick! So we are in a bit of a role reversal where I’m playing nurse now instead of her (that sounded a lot weirder than it was suppose to…) Anyways, the last time I went to the doctor, my blood pressure was really high like 150/80. The nurse was a complete jerk and gave me a lot of crap about being big… but that’s for another blog. Anyways.. again, today my blood pressure was 108/50 and this nurse was thrilled! She was like “what ever you are doing keep it up you are doing awesome!” Then I told here about my weight loss and she was even more impressed. Pretty awesome trip to the doctor. Anyways, good times.

Breakfast: I was in a rush to get to campus to get in for an appointment so I brought a Fudge Brownie Clif Bar for breakfast. The Fudge Brownie one tastes a lot like those no bake haystack cookies that mom used to make. Pretty good 4 points.

Lunch: After being cooped up in the doctors office, I was pretty hungry for good lunch. I went to Pollo Tropical for some chicken and black beans and rice. It had been a while since I had the good ol’ 1/2 chicken combo so it was a good lunch. 13.5 points.

Snack: Before my marathon of classes, I needed some caffeine to get through. I had a skinny iced caramel macchiato and it was delicious. 3 points. (P.S. this might the weirdest face I’ve ever made on this blog.)

Snack: When I got home, I had matzos and cheese. 2 points

Dinner: Since Megan wasn’t feeling well, she said that she wanted some Pizza Hut for comfort food. We had thin crust pepperoni, onions and tomatoes. It was delicious but, 16 points for four slices.

So I got up to 38.5 points. Ouch! I was going to work out today, but it did not happen. I am going tomorrow morning though and I am going to give the rowing machine a whirl. Should be a good one. See ya tomorrow.

Day 196: Special Monday Weigh In!

What’s Up G?

So I really hadn’t a clue how this weeks weigh in was going to go but I have to say it went out better planned. I lost 4.8 pounds! Holy Coke. I don’t know how, but it totally worked out! I’m now down to 275.4 pounds.

Know why that’s awesome?

A) I have lost 81 pounds total which is sooooo close to 100 pounds!

B) I’m in the 270’s

and

C) The last time I was on a scale and it said 275, Clinton was in office and I was in 8th grade. It’s been a long time. Holla.

Next week, prepare for another awesome weigh in.

Breakfast: I went with the Wafflewich because they are awesome and delicious. So awesome. 5.5 points.

Lunch: I got up to the Capitol a little early so I went to the Capitol Grill and attacked the salad bar. It was pretty epic and about 8 points.

Snack: I had a cinnamon toast wafflewich with pb and awesomeness. 4.5 points.

Dinner: We went to Mellow Mushroom for dinner and it was soooo good. We split a calzone and a brushetta with balsamic vinegar on a bed of spring mix. It was about a 13 points meal which works because it was a ton of food. (And yes, I have a hot wife.)

So today I got to 31 points so I’m on point. Sorry this is  brief post. See ya tomorrow.

Day 181: Weigh In Day!!!!!!

Why Hello!

It’s been way too long since I have posted and for that I’m sorry. I have gotten a lot of guff (yes, I said guff) from people about missing two posts in a row and for that I thank you. I really appreciate the support and accountability this community provides. It is a key contributor to my success so far and with the century pound mark in sight, your support is appreciated now more than ever. So thanks for calling me out Matt DC. I know you were just giving me a hard time, but it meant more than you know. So this morning I got in the scale with low expectations. We had to eat out the majority of last week due to the insanity of our schedule (somehow this week is going to be more insane. What what!) Anyways, for the few posts I did have, you saw the cheesey goodness that I consumed in mass proportions so I was just hoping to at least maintain (it would have been gained if I hadn’t worked out.) Well, my metabolism must be better than I think. I lost 2.2 pounds! Pretty awesome stuff!!! I am sooooo close to being in the 270’s now. I weigh 280.4 so super duper close. So with this week’s loss, I am 23.4 pounds away from 100 pounds. It’s getting there! Like I said this week is going to be bonkers, but we are going to be smarter with meals so 270’s: see ya soon!

Breakfast: So I made two packets of double fiber oatmeal but had it in the microwave too long. It always feels like when you make two packets, it either has the consistency of snot, or it blows up and gets all over the microwave. Well… the latter happened, and a large portion of my oatmeal was everywhere. (No, I did not eat the oatmeal shrapnel left in the microwave.) It was about 5 points worth of oatmeal. Yumtastic.

Lunch: After church, we needed to eat somewhere pretty fast so Megan could meet up with her friends for their study marathon. We ended up going to the Panera next to our house. Panera’s food is deceiving because you expect it to be healthy since it’s fresh but then it’s more points/calories than you hope. Regardless, it’s delicious so we still go there :). I had the half asain sesame chicken salad and half a Mediterranean veggie sandwich. It was really good and the salad was huge for just being half a salad. For the salad, the sandwich and the yummy baguette, it was 14 points. Not bad for how good it tastes.

Snack: While I was studying, I had 3 points of pretzels. That’s 30 pretzels. Holy cow.

Dinner: So this was a little different. While Megan was studying with our friend Catherine, I was at my small group and they had gotten dinner. By the time I was done it was 9:00 so I was starving. Megan texted my with news of leftover Chinese so I headed over there. I had Megan’s left over orange chicken with rice and an egg roll. I was good at the time. It took me back to my favorite super cheap Chinese place in Abilene where you could get a mountain of food for about $4. While the savoring moment lasted for a while, I still have the sodium taste in my mouth as I’m writing this. Not good. So it was high in points, and I have no real way of figuring it out, but here is what I know: I’m not the same guy I used to be. A meal like this was what I ate at least 3 times a week and it didn’t phase me at all. Tonight, I tried to go back to my old self and it wasn’t near as good as I remember. That’s so encouraging to me. To me it means that it would take a lot to get back to where I was, and that’s how I want it.

Snack: We went to Publix to get some groceries including watermelon and Cinnamon Toast Eggos which I have never had. They were delicious and  2 points.

So today wasn’t the best, but I have learned from my mistakes and I plan to work hard this week to lose a good chunk of weight. It’s going to be an interesting week. Bring it on. See ya tomorrow.

FSU WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SWEET 16 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 157: Thursday Hooray!

The week is almost over (thank goodness) and we are almost a week away from Spring Break. So close, yet so far. Anyways, today wasn’t that bad. I’m just ready for this semester to be over with. It’s been beastly.

Breakfast: Wafflewich. The best in the west. 4 points.

Lunch: We met up and ate at Pitaria for some lunch. Luckily, they had their awesome creamy vegetable soup today. So we both did that and split an order of hummus. It was great and about a 10 point lunch.

Snack: I had a Kashi bar of awesomeness for 2 points.

Breakfast: So I met up with some people (shout out to Andrea and Quinten what what!) for a group project around 5:30 so we went to Panera. When I got there, I had the dropsies really bad so going there might not have been the best choice. I wanted to dominated their pastries. Instead, I got a plain bagel. No bueno. It was 6 points completely dry. That’s more than a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Fail. Anyways, to add insult to injury, I spilled coffee all over my hand Old-Lady-From-McDonald’s style. That sucked, however the coffee was good and we got a ton done! (Take the bad with the good right?)

Dinner: By the time we were done at Panera I was starving so Megan and I decided to hit Chipotle in its awesome glory. I went with the Vegetarian Bowl with guac and sour cream on the side. It was a pretty awesome meal and 16 points. Pretty awesome stuff.

Today wasn’t the best day but it’s how it works. I got up to 38 points. Should have skipped on the bagel but awe well. See ya tomorrow.

Day 155: Tuesday Time!

Sup G’s!

So I’ve been pretty sick all week. I can’t figure out if its allergies or a cold but either way I wake up in the morning with Slimer dancing around in my head. I’ve been drugged up on cough medicine since Sunday so if I seem loopy that’s why.

Breakfast: I went with the classic wafflewich which was good. I finally get to crack open the Central Market Peanut Butter so I’m pretty stoked about that. Good ole 5.5 points

Lunch: I knew that Tuesdays are insane so I decided to make an early lunch. I basically had breakfast twice (which is fine with me) I toasted two English muffins with two eggs and two veggie breakfast sausage patties with a little cheese and some spinach leaves. (I was a Noah’s Ark of a meal.) It turned out really well. Pretty awesome lunch and 11 points.

Snack: While I was waiting for class to start, I had my afternoon snack of Kashi TLC granola bar for 2 points. You should really try them out.

Snack: We bought some awesome Charlie Brown gummies from Publix so I had a little package. They were 2 points.

Dinner: I really needed to eat something spicy to knock the snot out of me so Megan made some curry. She made it extra hot (emphasis on way too hot) It was a green Thai curry that she got for Christmas and we put in some shrimp, yellow peppers and zucchini. We used a low fat coconut milk that was a little different, but regardless it was pretty good. With a massive glass of milk to offset the hot it was about a 13 point dinner.

Overall, I got to 33.5 points which is fine with me. The past couple of days I’ve been too sick to get up to work out so I’m hoping I’ll be well enough to get up in the morning. See ya tomorrow.

P.S. did anyone watch Biggest Loser tonight? What did you think?

Day 125: Weigh In Round 21

So last week was a little insane with a vacation at the beginning and crazy amount of school work in the middle. Even though I didn’t work out towards the end of the week, I still had a pretty good feeling since I stayed within my points for the most part. Not to mention this was the first week of a new 43 pound goal by April 27th. With that being said, I woke up this morning feeling thin (anyone know what I’m talking about?) so I was hoping for a big/little number. I lost 2.2 pounds this week which was not as high as I was hoping, but considering the insanity of the week I’m really happy about it! I try not to complain about not losing as much as I hope because 2 pounds in a week is normal and I hate it when people get frustrated about losing only 6 pounds on the Biggest Loser. So I’ll take it and it’s a good foundation for a new stop on my journey. As of now, I’m 40.2 pounds away from the 100 pound goal. Also, I’ve lost a total of 59.8 pounds in 4 months! Pretty legit.

Breakfast: I went the Wafflewich route. It was delicious, but I think I’m going to cut it down to just one waffle and half a serving of pb to lower the points and then have a mid morning snack. It was 8 points of nomage.

Lunch: Megan made this awesome breakfast scramble with potatoes, bell peppers, onions, bacon, and a combo of egg yolks and egg whites. I forgot to take a picture because I was really hungry. Sorry about that. Let me assure you it was a masterpiece. Anyways, it was only a 6 point lunch.

Snack: If you haven’t tried 94% ff kettle corn, you are missing out!!!!!!!!!! Just enough sweetness to feel like you are cheating but not saturated enough to make you feel gross. Half of the bag was only 2 points! Buy it today!

Dinner: While I was watching the worst Super Bowl slowly develop game by game, Megan made this awesome WW Mexican Turkey Casserole. It was sooo awesome. We haven’t had it in a while and I really missed it. With some chips my dinner was 15 points. Only one portion is 6 points so it’s really a good meal.

Snack: During our men’s small group, they cooked hamburgers and hot dogs. I had already eaten, but there were some Cape Cod Chips with 40% less fat so for 23 chips (which is a big serving size) was only 3 points. Not too shabby.

So today I got to 34 points which is high but hooray for weekly points. See ya tomorrow.

Day 120: The Mourning After

(Yes, mourning was intentional. Please don’t comment.)

They always say that the day you go back to work from a vacation is really hard and let me tell you today was a doozie. I got more done in a day than I ever had (which is good) but even after working hard all day I still have more to do. It just never ends. Consequently, I’ve made a lot better use of my time and have become more efficient with the time I have. Welcome to Grad School I guess. Even though today has been rough and kind of discouraging, I have been getting awesome feedback about last night’s post which has made my day. Thanks again for being awesome. If the rest of semester is going to be like this, I’ll need all the help I can get. Alright, food time.

Breakfast: I tried to make a wafflewich with toast this morning (toastwich?) and it was a complete disaster. In it’s defense, my toast was cold so maybe that had something to do with it. I ate about 5 points of it and threw it in the trash.

Snack: Luckily, the FSU library has a Starbucks and since I got a Starbucks card from my awesome in-laws, (thanks Mark and Pattie!) I got a Grande Skinny Caramel Machiatto for 3 points. (Has anyone seen the new Starbucks cup size? It looks like the fuel tank on a Vespa. Just saying.)

Lunch: Since we were on campus, we met up at Pollo Tropical and grabbed some lunch. We both had the TropiChop which is white chicken, white rice and black beans. Soooooo good. The bowl is 11 points.

Dinner: Lunch was pretty early and dinner was pretty late so I was starving through out my classes. I’m definitely going to pack some snacks tomorrow to avoid that (and by drinking more water!) Anyways, we had chili which was just awesome. Some comfort food goes a long way. I know a lot of people think that comfort food usually has to be unhealthy but I totally disagree with that. Next time you want some comfort (stick to your ribs) food, make some beans and rice. It soothes the soul. Trust me, I’m a glutton (well… used to be.) So I ate a lot this evening but ate well. Dinner was 13 points. Yumtastic.

So today I got to 32 points which use to be okay, but since I broke 300, according to our older system, I’m down to 31 points a day. You might think it’s just a point, but I rely on that little guy a lot so that should make things interesting around here. Either way, I’m over a point today and it happens. I’ll take it. See ya tomorrow.
